2 Days into Week 8

Reluctantly did Yoga X Monday morning. I still hate it, but am growing to tolerate it. It is hard. The human body can only do so many vinyasas. Had a hockey game last night. First 2 shifts were tough after not playing in 3 weeks. I could hardly breathe, but after that I felt really good. I had really good energy. Some of my teammates commented after the game that I had some jump in my step that had not been there for quite awhile. I did not notice it so much myself. But if those idiots give you a compliment either they are yanking your chain or in the rare instance being serious. Since I had not done anything to provoke a ball busting, I will take it as a compliment.

Woke up this morning and could barely move. I was sore from head to toe! I did get a welcome surprise. I weighed in and discovered I had lost a total of 8lbs. I have lost 5 in the last two weeks which means I am back on track. I have lost 3.5 inches in my chest, and 4 inches in the gut/waist! The belt is down 1 to 2 notches depending on the water retention.

The inches are falling. I can only explain the lack of weight loss to the continuous build up of muscle.

Back to today. I held off on the workout until lunch and then knocked out Core Synergistics. I was able to do the plank to chaturanga run to completion for the first time. That was my 8th time doing this workout, and I get better at it every time. I also sweat my ass off more each time.

Got my fingers crossed for a Salmon dinner tonight.

Kenpo X tomorrow.

Look for another update in a week.

7 Weeks Down, 6 to Go!

It has been awhile since my last post. Week 5 was mostly entirely vacation. It was a crazy Planes, Trains, and Automobiles trip. Flew to St. Louis spent the night. Amtraked it to Springfield Ill. Spent 2 nights in Clinton at Ashley's Grandparents. Drove to Dayton Ohio for 3 nights at my Dad's. Back to Clinton for a night and Amtrak to St. Louis for 2 nights.

You may ask how in the world did you exercise? Well.......................
Flew into St. Louis on Saturday, so I did Kenpo X in the Morning at home.
Sunday in St. Louis - Rest day
Monday and Tuesday: in Grandma Lois' Garage. Nothing like the smell of gasoline and grass while sucking wind, doing ab work with the lawn mower 6 inches from your nose in an uncirculated garage.
Wed, Thur, Fri: In Dad's basement. Had to rig something up to use the stretch bands for Back on Friday. It is not nearly the same intensity as the pull up bar. I feel like it actually set me back a week not having the bar.
Saturday in Lois' garage for Kenpo X
Sunday in St. Louis was rest, but got in a lot of walking around town sightseeing.
Monday - early flight home. I had my mind made up to skip Core that day. We unpacked, and I sat down in front of the tv around 3pm. I thought to myself, "Screw this! I committed to do this. I am going to work out!" So I did. That was probably the closest I came to skipping a day.

I was now into week 6. I had not weighed in since week 4. I weighed myself on Tuesday and found I had gained 3lbs. Needless to say I was pissed, and I mean real pissed. 6 weeks of busting my ASS and 3 total lbs to show for it. May have been one of my top 10 angry moments of all time.

After I calmed myself, I realized I have been on vacation for 10 days. Eating out and drinking everyday. I wrote it off to sodium/water retention and not the best diet.

Even though the weight loss is not what I would like, there are a LOT of positives:
I can see and feel the changes.
- I feel tighter. It is hard to explain but I don't feel flabby all over. There is a general tightness.
- My shoulders look 100% better than when I started. As much as I hate Yoga X, I can see drastic changes in my definition when I look in the mirror during that workout. I can honestly say I have ever see my neck to shoulder area that well defined. That may not be saying much, but I am more pleased with that than anything else.
- Ashley tells me my back is much more defined, and "I appear to be elongating". Not sure if that is a word. She also says my love handles have diminished. My belly is still there. EVERYONE that has done this says that is the last to go.
- I have never slept so good in my life!!

Some of the negatives:
- Obviously the weight loss for me is not where I would like, but then again my diet is not exactly the best.
- Soreness. I am sore every single day. Yesterday was really bad for the legs. I believe a lot of this is because I am doing the exercises "more correctly" than when I started. You unknowingly tend to cheat in the beginning, because you are not used to the workouts. That is the only way you can get through them. After your body adjusts, you are able to do it right and really work the muscles. I also think the "Muscle confusion" process they use keeps you sore. Your muscles never know what is coming next. All that along with the fact I am not 25 anymore!!

Week 8 starts tomorrow. It is the so called rest week, which is tougher to me than the the normal weeks. Yoga X bookends Kenpo X, Core Synergistics, X Stretch, and Cardio X.
I will take some measurements tomorrow and see how I am doing.

Day 23

I have almost completed phase one. This is my so called "REST WEEK", but they must have some kind of crazy bizarro world definition of rest.

After 3 weeks I have lost
6 lbs
2in n the waist
1in in the chest

I will take the waist reduction of 2in every three weeks. I really don't care what I weigh as long as the belly goes away.

Yoga yesterday. No Change - I STILL HATE IT! I have to do it again on Saturday. That just SUCKS!

Had a hockey game last night. Felt better than I did 2 weeks ago. Got a second wind in the 3rd period. It may have been a partial rage/adrenaline surge due to an IDIOT ref call.
3rd period, Game tied at 5 and this dummy calls our defenseman for covering the puck in the crease and awards a penalty shot. Of course they freaking scored.

Let me replay this for you, as I was in the ice.
They had a 3 on 1 (shocker no one covered our d when they pinched - TODD LEE I am talking to you). I was the second man back which tells me my line was WAY over do for a change if I beat everyone down the ice.
They took a shot which hit out goalie in the shoulder, and fell in front of him. There was a mad scramble causing the puck to bounce two feet up. Our defenseman who had fallen to his knees knocked it down and pushed it back to the goalie, who covered it. All of this OUTSIDE the crease. I had positioned myself between their trailing player, and our goalie. Their third player was at the far post also between myself and the goalie.
The ref, who was behind myself, the trailer and the player at the far post, comes in screaming penalty shot for coverng the puck in the crease. First of all, this all happened in like .02 seconds. AND it was outside the crease. From his position, there was no way he could see all this through the 3 bodies blocking his view.

The 2nd idiot ref comes in and tells me your defenseman was NOT in the crease, or did he cover the puck. He said it was a penalty shot, because......if you know hockey you may want to sit down. "a player cannot hand pass to his goalie EVER." This made me laugh hysterically in his face and completely disregard him as ever in his life having one iota of knowledge for the game. There is no such rule!! This same ref later in the game signals a goal from the far blueline because he thought it was in the net, when in fact it the goalie had blocked it into the corner and it was being played out our d.

In the word of Napoleon Dynamite...... "IDIOTS!"
In my own words..........What a couple of DOUCHE BAGS!!!!!!
Needless to say that cost us the game and, I am still sour about it!

Off my soap box. Back to the P90X

Got up this morning and was so stiff, I was walking side ways. Waited until lunch to do Core Synergistics. Tried to go end to end with no breaks. Lasted about 15 minutes till I was on my hands and knees fighting back the puke. Those of you that know me, know I don't puke easy. I would say I had to fight this off for about 45 seconds. I must have been doing something right. Anyway today is over. Kenpo X tomorrow.

Talk to you later!

Day 17

This is my first post of the week.
I am glad to say I am down 3lbs, 1in in the waist, 1/2 inch in the chest. Starting to see some results after 2 weeks.

Did Shoulders and Arms today. Felt a little sore. I am getting the hang of this as I move forward. I am finding that I am able to do more, but it takes more out of me at the same time.

Sleeping like a baby. Some of the best sleep I have had in years. That alone is a huge benefit.

Tomorrow is Yoga X. Have I mentioned how badly I HATE Yoga???? And I have to do it twice next week. Sucks. To make matters worse the outside of my left foot is sore, like a deep bruise. Makes doing and Warrior poses extremely painful. Of course they take up 30 of the 90 minutes. Not sure if I will make it through tomorrows workout. We shall find out.
I am going to ping Beachbody and see if they have any other suggestions if Yoga is a no go.

Day 12 Legs and Back

For those of you complainers that I am not posting, I HAVE BEEN LAZY! With Blogspot, not my workouts.

Since I last posted I have had 3 workouts Shoulders and Arms + Ab Ripper X, Yoga, Legs and Back + Ab Ripper X.

All I can say is the workouts had me sweating bullets, and sucking wind.
YOGA SUCKS! I hate it. Can you possibly do more downward dogs and Warrior 1, 2, 3, shit in 90 minutes. And NO I can't swing my knee from a push up position all the way under my chin to pop into runners pose!!! My GUT gets in the way. My feet stick to the mat. The whole thing is annoying, but I fight through it. I can't wait till week 4 when I have to do it twice a week!!!!

The other workouts were still great. Ab Ripper almost made me puke this morning, TWICE! I guess that means I was doing it right.

Kenpo X (By far My Favorite workout) is tomorrow and then we replay the deck in week 3.

Day 9 Cardio X and Hockey Last Night

Well, I had a hockey game last night. After doing Core Synergistics early in the morning, I thought I would feel good but was fatigued the whole game. Rather than blaming this on being the oldest guy on my team and out of shape. I will use the old....It must be the lack of carbs in this phase 1 (fat shredder) diet P90X has me on.

We did win though 6-0. Congrats to our Goalie Tim for getting the shut out and playing very, very well. The game was MUCH closer than the score.
I DID NOT booze after the game. Even after getting a glimpse of Larry's new tighty reddies??? Or has I will henceforth call them Knighty Readies!!! What followed would cause any straight guy to drink!!! These things would make Greg Louganis PROUD! Larry claims some chick gave them to him, but I have to call Bull Shit. They were most likely a gift from Knighty. He seemed to enjoy them the most! He also gave Larry tucking ideas to make himself look bigger. Knigthy claims this is a runway trick he learned. Based on his most recent pic (below), I am not sure what to think anymore.

Got home at 11:30, ate a protein bar and watched tv for 30 minutes to wind down.

Woke up this morning and my back was tight. Left hip kept giving out causing my knee to buckle. I was fearing I would have to skip a workout. After a couple con calls I started to loosen up. Got the work out in over lunch and am glad to say I feel great. Although I still have not eaten and it is almost 1:00.

Tomorrow is Shoulders and Arms followed by Ab THE Ripper X.

Day 8 - Start of week 2

Started week 2 today. Core Synergistics did much better today than last Monday. Getting the moves better. Flexibility is a little better. I need to just keep plugging away. I have a hockey game tonight followed by Cardio X in the morning. That should be an interesting workout.

I am a little discouraged by the numbers:
Weight -1 lb
Chest + 2 (wonder if Ashley measured wrong last week)
Waist -1/2 inch

I sent a note to Beachbody and here is their response:
"Here's what's happening. Your body may not have had lean muscles prior to beginning the program. As you progress through the program, your body starts developing lean muscle, it will push out the excess fat layers above them, causing your body to look a little more bulky than before. Here's the concept you should know: Your body will burn fat more quickly when it has lean muscle! So keep pushing play! You'll see the fat layers disappear as you progress through the program. What will be left is a body that is lean and healthy. So don't give up or get discouraged."

I'll keep my fingers crossed!
